Dotting the Waves

Outfit Details: Polka Dot Top: Romy; White Tank: Unknown; Jeans: Romy; Shoes: Ross

You know how sometimes you’re shopping and then the sales associate is like “hey, this friday, we’re having an even better sale!” and you’re like “wait, really?” Of course, you show up and then purchase a couple things you had your eye on earlier (like these jeans and this top). At 70% off it was a sale I couldn’t resist, especially since it gave me the nautical-inspired outfit I have so desired ever since colored denim became popular. I know, I can’t believe it took me this long to snag a pair of navy jeans either.

I admit, I’m excited to throw this sheer polka dotted top over everything from now on.

Feeling Fall

Outfit Details: Dress: thrifted; Jacket: via Ross; Earrings: from Hawaii; Shoes: Report, via Macy’s; Knee Highs: via Modsock.

Even though it’s summer, the weather here screams fall. So after being unable to remember what pair of jeans I wore in my last blog post, I opened my tights drawer and found these knee-highs looking back at me. The coat got thrown over the whole thing, simply because rain could fall at any second here.

So, big news, I’m actually going back to school. I registered for classes last week, and I meet with my advisor tomorrow. Technically, I was supposed to wait to register, but I couldn’t–I like to plan ahead for everything. I’m doing a program for a medical assisting certificate, which should take me about a year. I’m actually really excited about the whole thing, even though it means more school. Although honestly, I’ve missed learning and classes over the past year.

These earrings are one of the larger pairs I own–I walked into a small store in Hawaii (I think on Kawaii) and purchased several pairs including these. The sparkly flecks in them seemed to go well with the top of the dress, and evoked a little “Starry Nights” feeling for me!

Well Worn

Outfit Details: Shirt: Charter Club, via Macy’s; Pants: Romy; Sunglasses: Ebay; Shoes: Blowfish, gift.

So remember that lovely jean collection I cultivated before I dropped 20 lbs? Yeah. I can’t wear any of those now (well some of them work in a pinch, just not well). So when I walked past Romy’s 50%-75% off the entire store sale and saw colored denim hanging in the store? I could not resist!

I’ve wanted a red pair for quite some time, and these were perfect. Plus another pair of jeans! That fit! I’m still debating on going back for the cobalt blue pair.

I threw this together for my dentist appointment that involved (shudder) fillings. Thankfully they gave me a ton of laughing gas, so I wasn’t as traumatized as I could have been by the experience.  I utterly despise needles.

These flats are starting to look a little “well loved”. I’ve been switching between these and my red pair for the past month or so–so they’ve definitely been well worn (possible to death).

I’ve recently organized (again) and so I’ve thrown all my sunglasses into one bin. I’m enjoying matching them with the color schemes of my outfits lately.

Get into the Groove

Outfit Details: Green Tank: Romy; Jeans: Gap; Shoes: Michael by Michael Kors.

As you may have seen if you follow me on Twitter, I got my hair cut and highlighted last Friday. I haven’t got a haircut since last August, so this was seriously overdue. As a preemptive strike to prevent that from ever happening again, I’ve already scheduled my next hair appointment. Hopefully that will prevent me from putting it off again.

And can I just say that I’m in love with boyfriend jeans? After finally caving and accepting that nearly every single pair of jeans I own does not fit me, I went to the Gap to snag work pants (grabbed these and these) and a pair of jeans. To my surprise, I’ve gone down 3 sizes–so it’s no wonder none of my pants were fitting!

During that same shopping trip I went into Texas Gladrags, and snagged these adorable Michael by Michael Kors loafers for $29. Sometimes I get really lucky at secondhand stores–and even though the label on these read a size 5, they fit me perfectly!

Workaholic

Outfit Details: Jean Jacket: Se7en; Floral Tank: Romy; White Tank: American Eagle; Jeans: Ross; Shoes: Ross.

I attempted a new location for outfit photos, and unfortunately it wasn’t as successful as I was hoping for. Work scheduled a meeting a couple weeks ago, and I got there a bit early so I had some time to kill. Outfit photos in a wooded area seemed like a good use of my time–but they just didn’t turn out how I wanted.

This jean jacket has pretty much become my summer uniform. I’ve managed to throw it over most every outfit. I bought it in 7th grade, and it’s still stylish enough that I can get wear out of it!

I’ve started curling my hair more often, when I have the time. I think a nice hairstyle can really help an outfit. Even though this is a more casual outfit, those curls put a spring in my step and give me some extra confidence (like wearing high heels!).

Flower Child

Outfit Details: Floral Top: via small local boutique; Tank Top: Old Navy; Jeans: Se7ens, via ideeli.com; Shoes (old): Steve Madden; Necklace: gift.

This outfit didn’t turn out exactly how I had hoped. I really wanted to add a jacket or blazer but these high waisted jeans made it difficult and nothing seemed to be working. I’ll probably try again in a week or two.

Sadly, the actual amount of jeans I have that fit is very small. I’ve so far deluded myself into believing that my jeans that are size too big are just “boyfriend jeans.” I do have two or three pairs that actually fit. This particular pair finally got hemmed and fit perfectly now! Sorry for the wrinkles, but I’m terrible about not wrinkling clothing.

This floral blouse is gorgeous, even though it does tend to make me look heavier than I am. I love it enough that I ignore that though. I’m actually delighted that I tried layering it over a bright tank top, since I tend to layer it with the same camisole over and over. I fully plan to work this into my wardrobe more often.

I’m starting to try and make an effort to involve jewelry in my outfit posts. Here’s hoping this necklace is the start of a trend! Also–I’m hoping this will help me hunt down some of my missing pieces of jewelry.

Also–I realize this is a super late Wednesday post, but better late than never!

Where Has The Time Gone?

Outfit Details: Cardigan: Gap; Tank: Old Navy, gift; Skirt: purchased at a small boutique; Shoes: Ross

Obviously I went AWOL for the month of May. I knew the last half of the month would be crazy, but I didn’t realize quite how crazy. I pretty much ended up switching between work clothes, pajamas, and workout gear–with several random outfits thrown in that (of course) didn’t get photographed.

Its been reasonably warm in Washington, so I’ve been mostly wearing jeans and tank tops. Which is really nothing to write home (or blog) about, anyways. Although I really regretted wearing jeans when I went to Seattle a couple Saturdays ago–shorts would definitely have been a better choice!

These red flats have started making a comeback. They’re comfortable and give a great pop of color.  As for this floral skirt? It’s about to become one of my summer staples. Nothing puts you in a better mood than a pretty flouncy skirt.

Just What I Needed

Outfit Details: Lace Vest: Macy’s; White Tunic: Macy’s; Jeans: Target; Shoes: Blowfish

So I wore this out shopping with my friend last Friday, and I’m just now getting around to posting it! Whoops! I’ve kind of dropped the ball, I know. I might change my posting schedule a bit to be more consistent and just post MWFS, because in addition to picking up more shifts at work, I’ve also started dating again. How do other single bloggers keep up with everything?! I just feel completely overwhelmed!

I’ve started trying to haul out the items I don’t wear as often, because I really should wear them more. This vest being one such item, and the tunic being another. Also, this vest is gorgeous.

Skin Was Showing

Outfit Details: Long Sleeve Striped Shirt: Romy; Tank Top: America Eagle; Mini Skirt: American Eagle: Sandals: K-mart.

Today, I reorganized my closet. Since I lost weight, I put a pile of jeans in the very back of my closet, which is virtually a death sentence. I found 2 pairs of jeans I have never worn (but will now make an effort to pull out!). I counted a total of 110 tops (including camis, tank tops, sweaters, t-shirts, etc). Crazy, I know.

Now that it’s summer, I’m really hoping I’ll pull out this pink striped knit a little more often. I love it, but its one of those difficult piece to wear because it always seems like its too warm or cold to wear it.

I’m pretty sure K-mart kid’s sandals are one of the few best purchases I’ve ever made. This pair of sandals and my gold pair are my all time favorites–and they were both pretty cheap for fancy looking sandals.

Only Daylight Souvenirs

Outfit Details: Headband: gift; Tank: Kirra, gift; Necklace: gift; Shorts (old): American Eagle; Sandals: K-mart.

I wore this Tuesday, because instead of getting dressed after work on Monday I fell into bed and didn’t wake up until 6pm! So this hair has been twice slept on (Monday afternoon and Monday night).

I actually created this outfit around the headband. I pulled it out of a drawer in my bathroom to keep my hair back while I washed my face. Then I decided I liked the contrast with my hair and went hunting for a blue top. One I found the tank, the rest of the outfit just fell into place. Can you tell I’ve been thinking summer a lot?

Second day hair always seems to be a little bit better than the first. The messy bedhead look is always what I’m going for. As for these sandals–I predict they’ll be my summer staple. I keep gravitating towards them every day!
