EBEW: Green With Envy

Green: Everybody, Everywear

This didn’t turn out quite like I’d hoped. My sock bun is much too small for my liking, which is my main irritation. My other irritation is that the sweater isn’t as long as I wanted it to be.

Otherwise this outfit is nearly how I envisioned it.

This sweater is a recent purchase. I mean, it’s striped so I obviously couldn’t pass it up. And it’s green! I own a total of 8 green items (2 dresses, 2 shirts, 1 pair of shoes, this sweater, 1 pair of jeans, 1 skirt) that I can remember. Green does not have a large presence in my wardrobe. Plus, I figured that since I’ll actually be in public on St. Patrick’s Day this year I better find something green I can wear.

 This necklace was an impulse purchase at my favorite store in Bellingham. I was kind of excited to add it to my outfit today, since I think I’ve only worn it a couple times. I’m trying to actually get my jewelry out a little more often.

Black + White | Everybody, Everywear

This month’s Everybody Everywear was right up my alley. Over half my wardrobe is black and white! In fact, I had to make an effort this past year to add some color into my wardrobe because all I owned was mostly black and white! And then, of course, I totally forgot about this month’s linkup until last night.

So I set out my outfit in advance. I think I’m going to have to start setting out my outfits the night before instead of getting up and have the I-have-nothing-to-wear conundrum.

 In addition to putting on a (gasp) dress, I even managed to bother with jewelry. Jewelry was also in black and white (and gold). Trust me when I say I felt accomplished since I (almost) never wear jewelry.

 Even my nails suited the outfit, with Essie’s Fiji and Sephora by OPI’s Only Gold for Me. I tied all the gold in the jewelry to my nails.

And then I managed to even throw in a bit of pattern mixing by adding my black diamond tights.

 Can I just say planning has never paid off as well as it has today?

EBEW: Sequins and Sparkles

Sequins + Sparkles | Everybody, Everywhere

After cleaning out my closet, I got rid of my only sequin tank top. A couple weeks later, while waiting in the checkout line at TJ Maxx, I spotted this sequin tank. I didn’t bother trying it on and just put it in my pile. Perfect replacement! I was kind of worried it wasn’t flattering since I hated it the last time I wore it, but I love it here.

These white jeans with my boots kind of give off an equestrian feel to me. Every single time I’ve worn the combo, I feel like I should hop onto a horse and jump over a couple fences. I kind of love it.

I thought about throwing a cardigan or a long knit over the outfit, and I tried a few–but after awhile I realized I just didn’t need it. The outfit is fine as it is (although the weather helps, a lot. It’s not raining! It’s sunny!).

My trick for hair that hasn’t been washed in two days? Curl it. It gives me enough volume that I can make it through the day, so I can exercise and shower in the evenings. Plus, I love curly hair!

Who owns ridiculous items like a 50′s esque pleather dress? Oh yeah, I do! Admittedly, this purchase was kind of an accident. I was shopping with my sister and we giggled over this dress because we thought it was so ridiculous. I tried it on as a joke. And then I loved it and paid $15 to take it home with me.

It has some great detailing on the pleather. All these little laser cut outs all over it. I’ve been desperately waiting for fall so I could wear this dress. I bought it in summer, but there was no way I was putting it on with the heat we were getting.

My secret to awesome tights purchases? Ebay. I buy all my tights off Ebay now. These purple pinwheel pair are one of my very favorites.

Super sorry for the picture quality today. Unfortunately I waited a little late to take pictures, so these ones ended up being horribly washed out.

EBEW: The Pattern Of My Life

Everybody, Everywear | Pattern Mixing

When I learned that the next Everybody Everywear was pattern mixing, imagine my horror. Okay, more like trepidation. I love the look of pattern mixing, but my closet? Low on the patterns. The only pattern I have a lot of is stripes. Stripes and I get along a little too well.

So I worked with what I had, and after several combinations where I tried to work in the other odd pattern here or there I threw in the towel and stuck with this outfit. I decided to a little more overtly nautical with the giant gold necklace around my neck, and the flats which always feel a little on the nautical side to me.

The ring I wore was a graduation gift from High School, instead of buying one of the high school rings that nobody wears after a couple months, my mom gave me a piece of her old jewelry. It’s a gorgeous oval sapphire with two small diamonds on the side. It’s something I’ll wear all my life, as opposed to a ring emblazoned with the name of my high school.

I also figured a close up of the multiple patterns was in order. :) Thin stripes, wide stripes, some strange plaid-esque striped shorts. I really enjoyed this challenge, although pattern mixing isn’t normally my style (in that I’m not particularly capable of putting pattern-mixing outfits together). I certainly hope I get better at it, since it was so fun this time.

EBEW: Yellow (30×30: Day 18)

So in love with this outfit. I’ve been considering ways to remix this tank with something besides skirts. Everybody Everywear’s theme this month was yellow (I love yellow), so this gave me a great push to do it! I admit, I was worried that pants or shorts might look a little “off” since this tank top is really long. However, this was definitely not the case!

All those “wear shorts to work” stuff floating around a while back generally made me raise an incredulous eyebrow. Shorts seemed inherently casual to me, and I thought shorts as anything other than casual wear seemed unprofessional. However, I would totally wear this look to the office (if I had an office).

As for life updates– packing has taken the majority of my time. However, I’m moving today! So then I’ll just be unpacking (although that always seems so much easier…)

Accessories: 

These 30×30 shoes have not made a debut yet! I forgot how comfortable they were, so I dreaded wearing them (until I put them on). They’re one of my many pairs of black pumps, but they’re definitely my favorites. I love the bow on the top!

As for the necklace–I ended up getting it during my 30×30 shopping spree. haha. At least I wasn’t terribly committed to that shopping ban, right? However, I really did need the accessories and I only tend to shop with other people, and it was a family activity… (excuses, excuses, excuses).

As for the hair & makeup– that was really low key. As almost everything is packed (my straightener is not available for use!), I ended up pinning back some strands with 2 barrettes. I just used blush, foundation, and mascara. Easy, breezy, and all that jazz.
