Vacation

This is the first opportunity I’ve had to access internet since Wednesday evening. Unfortunately, my internet at home has been on the fritz, so the posts I meant to schedule haven’t managed to be. In addition, I’m currently on vacation (I left on the 10th) and I’ll be gone through the 16th or 17th.

Posting will resume as normal after that!

Glitter, Red, and Pink

My entire nail polish collection (minus one polish).

Happy New Year’s everyone! Since I’m visiting a couple friends in my wonderful college town today, I’ll have a couple outfit posts in order for the next week. I just didn’t have time to get one up before I left!

Since August, I’ve started collecting nail polish. The first color I purchased was a bright orange (OPI’s Hey, Y’all Come Back Ya Hear?) and since then I’ve managed to add many more polishes to my collection. The total as of now? Forty one.

I’ve managed to acquire a variety of shades, in all colors of the rainbow. Judging from the polishes I’ve purchased, I’m incredibly fond of glitter, reds, and pinks.

In the spirit of analyzing, I also grouped all my polishes by brand.

To be clear:  Not all of these were purchased by me, some were gifts or are jointly owned by me and my mom.

However, these polishes have confirmed what I know: I am a cheapskate. The majority of my collection (12 polishes) are Sinful Colors. On average, these polishes work just as well as the more expensive brands and retail at Rite Aid for around $2. Before for those days where you need a little pick me up.

8 polishes are China Glaze, none of which were purchased by me. The majority of the colors are red, including my all time favorite red: Red Velvet. I really don’t believe there is a red that can top this red. It is that gorgeous.

In third place are the OPI polishes, numbering 6 (one not pictured). The Konad Special Stamping Polishes, for which there are no cheaper alternatives, number 5. Then I’ve got 2 Nicole for OPI, 2 Revlon, and a random base coat and Seche Vita top coat.

It’s nice to know that I have colors in every shade of the rainbow, in case it should ever strike my mood. Though I have found that as much as I love yellow, I’m not really sure it’s flattering on fingernails. However, I love a good midnight blue.

Obviously, I’ll keep collecting polishes but it’s good to see where the gaps in my collection lie so I don’t purchase the same (or too similar) polishes.

Are there any colors you’re particularly drawn to?

Break

 via

I’m taking a break from posting for today.

While I hate having to do this, the truth is I have been incredibly and insanely busy. Thus the amount of links I have for you to read are almost next-to-nill which I plan to just save until next Saturday. If you’re really looking for some links to check out, check out yesterday’s FBFF’s link-up. I went through them all and added several billion books to my must-read list.

In addition, I have 50,000 words I need to get down on paper for NaNoWriMo this month. I’m sure you can guess that this month’s postings are going to be a little more harried than usual, although I still plan to post everyday.

Tomorrow, I’ll put up an outfit post to make up for the fact I’m slacking off today.

Edit: I lied. I’m putting up this link because I think it’s important. A new tumblr is trying to show off the many faces of feminists. Read about it here on Feministing and check out the tumblr itself here. I definitely plan to submit a photo. :)

Quick Hit: Black and White

This week is known as “Dead Week” at my school (aka the week before finals), hence the lack of posts on Wednesday.

However to make up for it, I took a couple pictures before I went to the grocery store last night and I’m popping them up.

Current Elliot jeans, White House Black Market Top, random black boots.

I’m obsessed with these jeans. I’ve started planning all my outfits around them and wearing them all the time. I just bought them recently, and at 5’1″ they’re wayyy too long for me so I rolled them up. It looks cute, so it doesn’t bother me.

Added a black headband to the whole ensemble because I still hate my hair.

In other news I’ve also packed away over 1/2 my wardrobe in preparation to move. I’ll be left creating outfits from the few pieces I’ve got left. I guess you’ll be seeing me become more creative.

Wish me luck on finals!

America’s Next Top Model and my family go back a long ways, I can still remember watching Cycle 4 with my Mom and 2 sisters. In honor of my addiction to America’s Next Top Model (ANTM) and their cycle 16 premiere, I’ve uploaded heaps of old photographs from back when I had more time and a better camera person.

My only requirements for photographs were:

A) They had to be taken by someone besides myself and

B) I had to like the photo. I know, terribly shallow of me.

You’ll also be able to see a (kind of) style evolution.

Each photo will be chronological order (assuming I can remember what order they actually go in).

This was a themed photoshoot my sisters and I had one summer afternoon. We had a “bad girl/devil” persona and then a “good girl/angel” persona. This was supposed to be the “bad girl” persona. At the time I was 16, I believe, and a size 2. I remember I acquired the Denim Miniskirt from American Eagle, the tank top from White House Black Market, and the necklace from my sister. I have no clue where I got those boots. (Tyra would be saying: “That’s a little too “men’s magazine” darling…”)

“Look at this stuff, isn’t it neat? Wouldn’t you think my collection’s complete? Wouldn’t you think I’m the girl — the girl who has everything?” –The Little Mermaid

Recently I’ve been hunting around in my closet for something I haven’t worn in awhile. It always feels like I have nothing to wear (which is partially true). The bottom of my closet has a mini mountain of shoes cluttering it which is the only thing I probably have enough of (that’s lies though, I can never really, truly, have enough shoes).

Photobucket

Beware the horror of the shoe pile! And that’s not even all of them! (Ignore the boxes and bags, they’re for present wrapping. And excuse my horrendously messy closet. It’s tiny. There’s not a lot of room for me to put everything!)

Part of the reason for this lack of clothing is I’ve got clothing in three to four different sizes. Size 2, Size 4, Size 6, and Size 8. I refuse to buy any more clothes in Size 8. I pretty much let myself go while I was in school, and at my size (5’1″) a weight gain of five to ten pounds puts me in the next size up. I’m hoping that if I start eating better along with my PE class this quarter, I’ll end up dropping the 15-20 pounds and fit back into all the size 2 crap I’ve got.

I recently went to Goodwill up here though, and found a couple of really nice little things; like a pink leather jacket (!!!) and a really nice coat. I’ll have to post a couple pictures tomorrow. I also hunted around in the vintage stores in the area but didn’t find much, unfortunately. One store had a vintage Christian Dior jacket but it was a size 10, so there was no way I was going to fit in it. :( There was a purple Bill Blass dress too, but my mother informed me it looked awful with my coloring and it was a bit damaged so I didn’t get it.

This is how I feel when things don’t go my way.

I’m feeling like this summer will involve a trip to Seattle. Hopefully for graduation I’ll get a decent amount of cash so I can head down the the vintage shops down there to suss out some wonderful pieces. I’ve already got my eye on a couple places in Seattle…
