Lake Chelan, WA

In the middle of August, my family and I went to Lake Chelan. Lake Chelan in summer is a tradition in my family, we go every year.  It’s always really nice to relax by the beach or the pool, and this year we even did a couple wine tastings. I’ve been meaning to post pictures from vacation for awhile, but was too busy to go through them until now.

Me and my sisters also went zip lining! It was a lot of fun, and totally worth the possible death/dismemberment.

Of course, we also did the common touristy Chelan things like wine tastings.

Most of my Chelan outfits were the same: a bikini and then a cover-up to walk down to the beach. I’m pretty sure I wore only ten of the thirty-odd items I ended up packing. However, this simple sundress was a lifesaver–I wore it multiple times in the week we were there.

Also, interesting thing about the lake? There are tons of dragonflies! For some reason they all seemed really attracted to me, I couldn’t be out on the water without at least one (usually two) landing on me.

Happy Easter!

I don’t really celebrate Easter, although my family did when we were younger. I’ll actually be spending the day eating chocolate, and watching Game of Thrones tonight!

However, for those who do celebrate Easter, this picture popped up on my Facebook feed the other day!

These are some ways to dye eggs to get some gorgeous earthy colors! Aren’t they stunning?

Super Snow Day

I live in Washington state and we almost never get snow. Never. So instead of doing the ABCs of Style prompt for today, I decided to put on my snow boots yesterday and enjoy some good fun out in the several inches of snow that came down in my area! We got around 2-3 inches close to my house, and I spent the day stomping around the town with my friend, Erin, and taking tons of ridiculous pictures.

Thankfully I haven’t had to drive anywhere (yet), so the snow is something I can enjoy unlike many other Washingtonians. Although, hopefully if you’re living in Washington then you’re enjoying the snow just as much as I am! I suppose you could consider this my daily outfit post, but the only thing I actually paid for in this entire outfit was my jeans. The rest was all gifts from my family.

Snow is one of those very rare things that instantly reverts to me to a childhood mindset. I’ve posted the least ridiculous pictures here as this is the internet, and because I’m still attempting to pretend that I’m mature and “grown up” (which is a total lie).

Resolutions

You say you want a revolution resolution, and we all want to change the world our lives…

Silliness happens.

As it is, I’ve been thinking about New Year’s Resolutions since November. I’ve tried to start some of them early, but they’re still resolutions for next year.

Dear Self:

credit

1. Exercise at least 3 times a week. You’re a much happier person when you exercise, and you want (and need) to take some time to care for myself a little more. It’s part of the reason you started this blog, remember? You wanted to get up every day and feel better about yourself and what you wore.

2. Lose weight (and inches). Tone up. Feel better about yourself.

3. No longer consume: soda or store bought cookies. Avoid HFCS in everything. Eat better. When you eat better, you feel better. Also, stop craving hot dogs.

4. Find full-time work. Do not settle for working 4 part-time jobs. Don’t be disheartened and depressed if no one calls you for an interview, just keep looking. Keep your hopes up, you’ll find something eventually.

credit

5. Wear skirts (and dresses) more often. You own them. You put together outfits in your head involving your skirts and dresses. You just never put those outfits on. Start doing it! (Why do you feel like putting on a skirt takes more effort than jeans?)

6. Date around. Do not settle. Enjoy being single.

7. Wash your face every single night! Stop forgetting!

8. Save money for those trips to Europe you’ve always wanted. A little bit every month.

9. Get out of the house more. Stop being a recluse. Meet people. You suck at this, work on improving.

10. As an addendum to the above (#9), hang out with your friends more. Make time for them. Stop being a recluse!

11. Read. Purchase books more often. Spend less time on the internet. Read the books on your list.

12. Finish one of your novels that you’ve started. Even if it kills you. You need to stop starting new ones without finishing the previous ones.

13. Pay off your student loans. Completely.

14. Learn how to read patterns. You have all the materials to crochet things. Oh, and learn more than one stitch. That would probably help.

15. Become more organized. You desperately need to. And stop throwing your clothes on the floor in the evenings–you just have to pick them up again later.

16. Visit the Seattle Aquarium. You’ve been wanting to forever! Completed!

This Fashion Beauty Friend Friday, the lovely Katy Rose of Modly Chic has asked us about our New Year’s Resolutions. See everyone else’s here

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone! Hopefully you’re enjoying the holidays!

I’ve been needling myself all of December to get a picture of all the lights my family puts up on the house. However, it’s always cold, late, and I never seem to have my camera with me when I remember! So on Christmas Eve, I went out and snagged a couple shots. It wasn’t too dark, but just enough for the lights to show up.

These snowflake lights above the garage are my favorites.

I love our Japanese Maple (?), It’s like a mini weeping willow. We used a bunch of net lights to cover the whole thing and it looks stunning.

I’ll be back to regular updating from here on out!

Christmas, Christmas Time is here…

What? Don't you have this many holiday decorations?

Christmas is like crack to my family. All of us love it. We probably own more holiday decorating items than Martha Stewart. This is considered “toned down”. We have many more boxes and boxes of Christmas items.

Festive holiday spirit is the name of the game! The stocking on left in red and green is mine. :) We’ve had these particular stockings since I was a kid.

Admittedly, our Christmas tree isn’t a “real” tree. But, honestly? I prefer it. We have a variety of ornaments from before I was born, places we’ve gone, and commemorating special occasions. Obviously, we also have some just because we liked them (FYI: There are a lot more presents under our tree right now).

We’ve got little areas of Christmas festivity scattered around the house…

Little Christmas oasis’ adorn the household. Can you tell we get really into the Christmas spirit?

The staircase is one of my favorite spots of Christmas-y cheer in the house.

These little Kris Kringles sit in the wall sconces. They’re so adorable and delicate!

FBFF: Holiday Wishlist

For this week’s Fashion Beauty Friend Friday, Katy Rose of Modly Chic wants to know what is on our holiday wish-list this year.

You may remember my previous fall wish-list (here), and I’ve actually managed to complete the majority of that wish-list. Recently I created another wish-list, the majority of which got completely filled (I managed to tick of corduroys, khakis, and the plaid jacket) on Black Friday.

So what have I been coveting recently?

Holiday Wishlist Part 1

1. Jeffrey Campbell Lita and Jeffery Campbell Nightwalk

There was a time when I wouldn’t bat an eyelash over dropping $100 on shoes. However, that was a long time ago. I’ve gotten wary about purchases over $100, because I’ve become a cheapskate. However, I love the look of both the Lita and the Nightwalk. I keep telling myself when I save up the money I’ll buy a pair, but I keep forgetting and spending a little bit here and a little bit there…

2. Amrita Singh Jewelry

If anyone makes a statement piece, it’s Amrita Singh. I need more statement pieces in my collection, and I love the majority of her jewelry which is all so gorgeous.

3. Classic Trench Coat

This is the one item I have such difficulty hunting down. It’s hard to find a good trench coat, especially one that I find aesthetically pleasing (and in my price range). The one pictured? I love it! Problem: it’s Burberry, and therefore out of my price range.

4. Yellow Scarf

I’m obsessed with yellow. It’s almost tragic that I don’t have a yellow scarf already.

5. Cardigans

My cardigan collection is a bit woeful. I’d love a couple adorable (long-sleeved) cardigans to round out my wardrobe, especially since some of my favorites have started to look a little bit worn…

Holiday Wishlist Part 2

6. Black Boots

I need a pair I can walk in that will work for winter. I’ve got my cognac pair, but I’d like to add to my miniscule boot collection. Plus, black is just so versatile.

7. Grey Leopard Print

I lack in the animal print department. I tend to find a lot of it very… displeasing to the eye if it’s not done properly. I love grey leopard print though. I’d prefer it in a pair of jeans or a scarf.

8. Colored and Patterned Tights

I own tights in blue, black, white, pink, and purple. I’d like to add some other colors in there. A red, yellow, green, and maybe some orange? Patterns (like polka dots) would not be amiss either!

9. Nail polish

I do my nails at least once a week. I’m always adding to my polish collection! I’d love to have more than just black and white stamping polishes. A splurge in the nail polish area might not be a bad idea either.

Lastly, these have been in my “saved” area of my Amazon.com cart for awhile. Hopefully I’ll pick them up sometime in the next year or so…

Films:

10. Harry Potter: The Complete 8-Film Collection

11. Memento

Books:

12. Style Yourself

13. Fashion 2.0: Blogging Your Way to The Front Row

14. You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up: A Love Story

15. The Sociopath Next Door

Black Friday: Out For Today

By the time this posts, I will (hopefully) have crashed into my bed and be sleeping off a successful Black Friday shopping trip.

I’m writing this at 9 PM on Thanksgiving Day, and leave in an hour to hit Wal-mart for DVDs. After, I’m heading towards the mall which opens at midnight and shopping until 3-4 AM. By the time I get home, I should have finished all my X-mas shopping and whatever else I decided to pick up.

Now, instead of reading my blog–why don’t you hunt around for some great deals of your own? Even if you decide to hunker down in your house, try online shopping. There are so many great deals out there today, that you should (at the very least) take a look!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! I’m off to enjoy myself some pumpkin pie, and prepare for some Black Friday shopping at 10 PM. I can’t wait to get those good deals and stay out until 4 AM shopping to my heart’s content.

I keep meaning to post holiday decorations around the house, but I always seem to forget. I certainly forgot to post the awesome Halloween decorations. However, here are the fall/Thanksgiving ones…

And as a preview for my next outfit post… Check out my new boots:

I hope that everyone has a great Thanksgiving and picks up some wonderful deals on Black Friday (or Cyber Monday).

Happy 4th of July! (30×30: Day 16)

IMPORTANT!

I will be changing my blog from http://literaturenlace.wordpress.com to http://literatureandlace.wordpress.com on Sunday, July 10th. Please change your links/etc at that time!

Today’s post is super late, mostly because I woke up really late after staying up really late. Oops. I meant to get up at 10 AM so imagine my shock when I rolled over and read 2 PM. I gotta fix my sleep schedule.

I haven’t got any plans for the 4th, so I just headed to the grocery store. One guy complimented my skirt, and the cashier said she loved my festive look. Only out and about for 5 minutes and I get compliments? That’s what I call an outfit success.

Anyways, on to the outfit details!

These red flats were utterly perfect for the 4th of July. I love the ruffles across the top, and they’re probably one the most comfortable pairs of shoes I own. I’m always looking at them and going “they’re so cute!”

Really long red necklace. At first I doubled it up, but it still didn’t look right and I really needed some more red in the outfit–so I tripled it. It ended up working much better then.

This was really the crowning glory of my 4th of July outfit. When I went to visit my parents I mentioned that i was hunting for more scarves. and my mom said “I’ve got a bunch I never wear. I’ll give them to you.” When I woke up I dug through the heap and found this red one. Since I already had a neck accessory, I decided to use this as a belt.

Would you believe when I planned out my outfit last night I had a completely different outfit in mind? I was kicking myself for not including a red top in my 30 for 30, so I figured I’d use jeans for blue with a white top and then the red flats. However, I woke up this morning determined to make this skirt work. I was worried that the outfit would seem a bit too close to Day 8, but I don’t think it seems as similar as I thought it would be. Victory!

Outfit Details:

Top: White House, Black Market

Skirt: local shop, Nostalgia.

Pearl/diamond earrings: X-mas gift
