Boots & Boys

Outfit Details: Long Cardigan: Macy’s; Dress: via Nostalgia (local shop); Sweater Leggings: X-mas gift; Boot Socks: X-mas gift; Boots: Bandolino, via Macy’s.

Sometimes throwing things together ends up working out. I bought this dress at a local shop in Bellingham and I love it–after all, who doesn’t love a dress with pockets?–but it’s not always super flattering on my body in addition to being very short. Throwing this brown cardigan over it just pulled everything together nicely.

Plus, after staying up to nearly 4AM last night I’m pleasantly surprised that I can put together an outfit that I like.

I’ve been working on my hairstyling/braiding abilities over the past couple days, and I’m hoping to start incorporating new hairstyles into my daily life.

Living My Nakesake

Outfit Details: Dress: Darling; via Les Saisons Boutique; Sweater Leggings: X-mas gift; Boot socks: X-mas gift; Boots: Bandolino, via Macy’s.

Sometimes the right outfit puts you in the right mood. This dress always cheers me up. It makes me want to frolic through fields and woods like a woodland nymph. In addition, it lives up to the name of my blog. Ironically, I don’t actually own as much lace as I thought I did even though I love lace more than anything. I just hate itchy clothes.

In addition, I’m almost positive this is my most inspiring garment in my wardrobe. Ever since I bought this dress in early December I thought about the different ways I could wear it. With this cardigan or that jacket–versatility, thy name is this lace dress! However, I never actually put it into practice. I’m starting now, though.

Don’t you love the lace? So pretty!

Anyway, I wore this on a date. I know. Dating. I think I hate dating. I like getting out and meeting new people, but I just feel so incredibly awkward doing the whole thing. I’ve gone on this whole organic kick–you know, “things need to just… happen! They need to develop organically.”

I never understand my friends saying stuff like that before, and now I’m going to say: I’m so sorry. You are so right. I totally understand now!

I got a pair of knee high socks for X-mas. I actually layered them over my sweater tights and I really liked the end effect. It actually looks pretty seamless, even though the sweater tights are grey and my socks are brown/cream.

Hair Inspiration: Game of Thrones

After finishing A Dance With Dragons, I immediately set about to watching HBO’s adaptation of the books. In addition to being delighted at the cast, the sets, and everything overall–I loved the hairstyling. I was definitely inspired by the world that HBO created for some of my favorite novels.

I’ve been meaning to hunt up screencaps for awhile, and I finally got around to do it last night with hanging out with a friend. I’m excited to try out my braiding skills to create some of these wonderful looks.

I’ve decided to divide the looks based on character, and I’ve attempted to hunt down different perspectives of all the hairstyles to get the best idea of how to create them.

Let’s start with Queen Cersei:

I’ll be honest and just say I have no idea how to create this. I’m think i could play with it enough to figure it out though. Some rats and rolls and it could quite possibly work.

Twists into braids! Seems easy enough. It’s probably more difficult in execution though.

Sansa Stark:
She only wears about three styles (that I remember) one of which is just like Cersei’s above.

Easy. I’m actually attempting this one tomorrow. I don’t anticipate it giving me any trouble.

I actually did this one on my friend the other night. It’s relatively simple. Sadly, I forgot to take pictures but I’ll probably be doing it on myself (or someone else) again soon enough.

The variation of Queen Cersei’s. I actually like Sansa’s better, even though it looks more difficult.

Daenerys, the Khaleesi:

Daenerys has the most varied hairstyling of the show with lots and lots of braiding involved. I was (so far) unable to find the picture of the one look I wanted but that simply means I’ll have to rewatch the series.

Daenerys’ hair is simple here, her brother’s is a bit more interesting. It gets more complicated as it goes, however!

From one braid to two. Queen Cersei’s hair does something similar (above).

I wish the first one of these wasn’t so tiny, but you get the gist! I anticipate that I’ll easily be able to create this in someone else’s hair (maybe a little easily in my own).

I was lucky to find a back shot of this one! This one would be simply enough to do if I had long enough hair! I might be waiting for my hair to grow out before I can attempt it.

This one is stunning, and I’m pretty sure it’s my favorite.  Hopefully I can figure out some way to achieve it!

It looks like a twist or two twined together, I think. I’m hoping experimentation will yield a similar result!

After seeing all of these, I’m hoping my hair will be a lot less boring this year! I’m going to brush up on my braiding skills and create some wonderful looks. I just hope my wardrobe will be able to keep up.

Never Going Back To Easy

Outfit Details: Jacket: Old Navy; Tank: American Eagle; Skirt: BCX; Shoes: Missoni for Target; Necklace: Forever 21

I imagined this working a lot better than it actually did. For some reason I kept having ideas of pairing this skirt with this jacket. I think I went wrong with the orange. I wanted a bright color so that the outfit wouldn’t seem to dark and depressing–but I think yellow would have been a better choice.

However: I feel like my New Year’s Resolutions are going quite well. I’ve been wearing dresses and skirts with regularity for the past week. I’ve just started to gravitate towards them for some reason. And, I’ve already visited the Seattle Aquarium!

I tied in the orange tank top by adding these Missoni for Target flats. They’re super comfy, especially since I almost never feel like wearing heels.

I doubled up on this long double stranded leaf necklace. I like how it turned out! It really looks like I’ve got a lot more jewelry on than I do.

Black + White | Everybody, Everywear

This month’s Everybody Everywear was right up my alley. Over half my wardrobe is black and white! In fact, I had to make an effort this past year to add some color into my wardrobe because all I owned was mostly black and white! And then, of course, I totally forgot about this month’s linkup until last night.

So I set out my outfit in advance. I think I’m going to have to start setting out my outfits the night before instead of getting up and have the I-have-nothing-to-wear conundrum.

In addition to putting on a (gasp) dress, I even managed to bother with jewelry. Jewelry was also in black and white (and gold). Trust me when I say I felt accomplished since I (almost) never wear jewelry.

Even my nails suited the outfit, with Essie’s Fiji and Sephora by OPI’s Only Gold for Me. I tied all the gold in the jewelry to my nails.

And then I managed to even throw in a bit of pattern mixing by adding my black diamond tights.

Can I just say planning has never paid off as well as it has today?

Texting: More Dangerous Than You’d Think

 via

I’ve been posting only around every other day because I’ve been insanely busy. I haven’t had a single day to myself, much less time to stop and take pictures before it gets dark.

Here’s the example of my last week’s schedule:

Tuesday: Work

Wednesday: Hang out with H, before he leaves for Texas

Thursday: Work

Friday: A date in Seattle

Saturday: Girl’s Night Out in Seattle, crash at A’s place.

Sunday: Ride ferry home, have Sleepover.

Today: Sleepover ends, do laundry, get ready for work.

So essentially total madness. I had plans to take pictures, to crave out some time in the last two days to do so.

However, on Saturday evening before I left for Girl’s Night–disaster struck (this is overdramatic). Basically, while texting and walking down stairs (you see where this is going don’t you?) I managed to miss a step. This led to a fall, and a slightly sprained ankle. Of course, I ignored the pain and went out for Girl’s Night anyway. A little injury wasn’t going to stop me! So I danced the night away. And then on Sunday, I hobbled around like a wounded puppy.

I’ve been trying to stay off it for the past day and a half, and I hope to get back to posting regularly now that my schedule has stopped sending me to Timbuktu and back (Plus, I think the light is starting to last longer. I took pictures at 4 pm a couple days ago).

Revolution

Outfit Details: Dress: via TJ Maxx; Shoes: Lindsay Phillips, X-mas gift

I never realized just how easy it was to wear a dress until I bought this one from TJ Maxx. I could just throw it on and VOILA I was clothed and ready to go. I’ve been wearing it around my house with astonishing frequency.

I seriously love this dress though. It’s definitely going to feature very strongly on the blog for awhile–especially once it gets warmer since it’s still freezing here! The skirt on it is actually square, which might be my favorite part.

These were a stocking stuffer from my parents. They’re so comfortable and now I can add some animal prints into my wardrobe.

Small Children Fried My Brain

Outfit Details: Cardigan: Forever 21; Shirt: Walmart; Jeans: Gap, B-day gift; Boots: Bandolino, via Macy’s.

I’m still getting back into the swing of things, so let’s just call me exhausted and be done with it.

In other news, I’m talking with my best friend while taking these pictures. Sometimes a girl has to to multitask! Considering, I was really late pictures and it was 4pm I didn’t want to the the chance that I’d miss out on outdoor pictures. I took indoor pictures for yesterday, but they just didn’t turn out, so I’ll have to reshoot that outfit…

I was hoping to start on my New Year’s Resolutions, and I had planned to wear a dress. Unfortunately, living in a super rainy (and windy) climate it just seemed like a bad idea today. Maybe tomorrow? (Isn’t that what everyone says for all NY’s resolutions?)

Last Outfit of 2011

Outfit Details: Cardigan: Old Navy, X-mas gift; Shirt: Old Navy; Pants: Victoria’s Secret Yoga Pant; Shoes: Uggs, X-mas gift.

I debated about posting this outfit because it’s not a “real” outfit. But I wore it, so I decided to post it. Even if my last outfit of 2011 is a really awful traveling outfit.

Considering I spent 2 hours in a car, I feel like I am entitled to yoga pants for the last day of 2011. Comfort is not a crime.

…I am also entitled to slippers.

In my defense, the friend I was carpooling with also wore slippers! They were the only shoes she brought up!

I meant to post this sooner, but I had to recover after New Year’s Eve spent with my awesome writer’s group. It is almost unnecessary to say, but I had a wonderful time visiting Bellingham again.

Hopefully everyone else had as great of a New Year’s as I did!
