Happy Halloween everyone! This post is up so late because this is what I’m wearing today. I was going to do the 80′s thing, but decided at last minute to center my outfit around my (already owned) cat ears.

This is my last Halloween themed manicure! It went a little more fall themed than I anticipated, but that’s perfectly fine.

This was my first attempt at a half moon manicure, it was a little trial and error since I was very impatient and messed up a couple times.
I contemplated switching the purple/orange every other nail, but then decided it would look a little crazy. I ended up liking the look, and I’m sure my half-moon mani skills will improve with time!

My two little betta fish, Apollo (pink) and Hades (red/purple). They’re both so colorful, with wonderful personalities. Their graceful movements are stunning to watch.
On that note, I also find the ocean, salt water aquariums, and sea life to be wonderfully inspiring. I’m obsessed with one day having a salt water aquarium. They’re expensive to start though, and the fish themselves can get pretty pricy. (Plus, I’d need a place to put it…)
Art, especially based on Greek mythology or literature, is something I find particularly inspiring.

Van Gogh’s “Starry Nights” is one of those pieces of art that first spoke to me. The swirls in the sky remind me a bit of the waves of the ocean. I actually have a poster of it on my wall.
I’m not really fond of modern art. I prefer the 17th-18th century pieces. My general art aesthetic is very J.W.W.
If we’re talking designers or celebrities, it’s a little more fluid for me. Usually something will just speak to me, I’ll see and I’ll just know that this is what I’ve been looking for.
I really loved Alexis Mabille’s couture Fall 2011 collection. I desperately want to find a coat or dress or sweater or something that has (faux) fur sleeves. Plus he was inspired by fairy tales! What’s not to love?
Alexander McQueen Spring 2012 RTW.
The late McQueen’s items spoke to me frequently, so I consider his fashion house a favorite of mine. Sarah Burton really didn’t let me down when she took over, and so the collections coming out under the Alexander McQueen label are still regularly hitting it out of the park for me.
As for celebrities, Miranda Kerr’s street style is amazing. I definitely look to her frequently!
I’m not a really big celebrity follower, although I do admit that I like the way Taylor Swift dresses. Other red carpet favorites of mine are Emma Watson and Dianna Agron. Other things that inspire me are ad campaigns, bloggers, nature, horses, and books. I’m always inspired by wonderful literature–disappearing into another world (or just a different place in this one) is one of my favorite pastimes. Tragedy is my bread and butter.

I kind of cringe that I bought this top at Wal-mart. Wal-mart is one of those places that just about everyone hates, and nobody likes to admit they shop(ped) there. However, my lack of long sleeved shirts drove me there when my mom informed me they were having a sale. For $3-$7, I managed to get a bunch of basic long sleeved shirts. Plus, with fall and winter? It’s kind of necessary to have those in your wardrobe. To be clear though, this is the first time I’ve stepped in Wal-mart in over a year or so. I really don’t go there frequently.
I do have to give them credit though, since they stocked Jungle’s Parasite Clear which cured my little betta fish! The Petco right next to them didn’t have it in stock, or any sort of parasite removal medication for fish.
In other news, My mother hated this outfit. Well she just said “iiinteresting” and then I asked her what she meant by that, and she told me she didn’t like the outfit. Looking at the pictures, I kind of see why she wasn’t too fond of it. I still rather like it though (plus I can wear socks with those boots).
These earrings are one of my favorites of my collection. They’re so tiny that they’re hard to get a good picture of, though!
It’s interesting but I went pink, black, pink, black in this outfit. I kind of like it. It’s stripe-y without being stripes.
This outfit is very similar (minus shirt and jewelry) to a previous outfit I wore. I was going for a bit more nautical themed, but I don’t think I particularly managed it. I wish I’d switched the shoes to my new red heels.
In other news, 14 Shades of Grey recently had a post the other day that helps blog readers get to know the blogger a little better. Since I sometimes have issues working my life into my blog, I thought I’d do it too. So here it goes…

C – Chore you hate: Cooking. Yes, I consider cooking to be a chore.
D – Dogs: Two! Though they aren’t really mine. Stevie (Nicks) and Webster make frequent appearances on here.

F – Favorite color: Blue. It’s always been my favorite.

H – Height: 5’1”. I was very excited in 8th grade when I finally managed to make it over 4 feet.
I – Instruments you play: In 6th grade I played the clarinet, and dropped it almost immediately after the year was finished. I hated it a lot.
J – Job title: Virtual Assistant/Reading&Math Tutor (I’ve got 2 part-time jobs, right now).
K – Kids: None. And as far as I can tell, there won’t be any in the future. I’ll reconsider when I’m 30. 
L – Live: Washington State. I like it, except for the rain.
M – Mother’s name: Sandra.
N – Nicknames: Mostly I’m called Cort. I also have a specific friend that calls me Shortney.
O – Overnight hospital stays: None. I avoid any place that has needles on hand like the plague.
P – Pet peeves: bad spelling, people who drive slowly, people who don’t listen… this section could really be the whole post, but I’m going to stop here.
Q – Quote from a movie: ”Inconceivable!” I’m sure you can guess what this is from.
R – Right- or left-handed: Left-handed.
S – Siblings: Two sisters. McKenzie and Christine.
T – Time you wake up: Depends. I try to wake up 8am-9am. Sometimes I fail and don’t get out of bed until 10:30. I have two alarms and I’m contemplating the purchase of a third…
U – Underwear: Yes, I do own underwear.
V – Vegetables I hate: Brussel Sprouts, Cauliflower. I’m sure I can come up with more.
W – What makes you run late: Traffic. I really hate slow drivers.
X – X-Rays you’ve had: Just the ones on teeth that they have you get at the dentist.
Y – Yummy food that you make: Mostly cookies. I like making cookies.
Z – Zoo animals: I love most sea animals. Fish, dolphins, otters. As for traditional zoo animals–Zebras.
Also update: My fish is doing a lot better. I think one of the medications I used on him worked.

It had to happen sooner or later. An entirely gifted outfit. Admittedly, I was there for the Gap jeans–I picked them out, but I wasn’t the one who paid for them. I coveted these shoes that my sister had so much that she bought me a pair for Christmas. My other sister gave me the top. It’s nice that my family knows what I like style-wise.
In other news, I planned out this outfit. The pink of the top, I decided, would go well with the pick of the jeans. However, I wish I’d dragged my grey boots out of storage (and not just because my feet were cold). They would have definitely gone better with the whole outfit.
Sorry for the quick and late post. I’m dealing with multiple problems right now. One of my betta fish has been sick for over a week, and I’m not sure what’s wrong with him. I’m desperately hoping the medication I’m giving him now will work.
I’ve also had a really huge problem with Paypal. Some company (called “Linky Bucks”) charged me $190 and $170 which was completely unauthorized. Paypal dropped the charge for $170, but let the $190 charge go through. To say I’m upset doesn’t even really cover it. I had to go to the bank and dispute the charges yesterday because I’m not paying for a service that I don’t want, don’t need, and didn’t authorize.

I love to mix black and blue. I don’t really know why, but I love the combination. This outfit only reminds me that my striped cardigan needs way more love than it gets. Every time I see it in pictures it looks so flattering (I knew what they said about horizontal stripes wasn’t true).
These jeans are my biggest thrifting win. I tend to avoid tops when thrifting, but I’m always delighted to paw through the jeans. These Michael Kors jeans were a surprise, and they’re actually my favorite flared pair. Interestingly enough, whoever owned them before me was just as short as I was. They were hemmed perfectly for me. It was fate.
When I saw these shoes at TJ Maxx, they instantly reminded me of these Chanel ballet flats. Only I thought these ones were much much cuter. Of course I instantly snagged them. Flats are something I tend to wear frequently, so I didn’t have too many qualms about handing over $20 for these babies.
I always have better luck searching for shoes at TJ Maxx than at Ross. The Ross in my area tends to be very very picked over, with hardly any selection in my size. TJ Maxx makes it difficult for me, I found 3 pairs of shoes the last time I went there (and could have found more). I ended up purchasing these, a pair of red pumps, and leaving behind the leopard print heels. To console myself, I picked up a sequined tank top to replace the one I’d gotten rid of recently.

Modly Chic is a little obsessed with Halloween, to which I can totally relate! So this week’s Fashion Beauty Friend Friday is all about getting into the spirit for the event. These week’s questions are all Halloween themed!
1. Do you have plans for Halloween? What will you dress up as this year?
At this point, I don’t have any plans. I do want to dress up, but I’m having difficulty finding a costume that I feel like doing. It’s very frustrating.
Sometimes I wish I was a guy, because then I’d totally go as the Cheese Man from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (Wonder who the Cheese Man is? Go here. Or watch the best moments of the Cheese Man here).
2. Where do you go for costume and makeup inspiration?
Youtube! No, seriously. People do amazing things on there. I usually end up browsing through the makeup tutorials and then manage to find my way into the costume makeup. There’s one for a lizard man that is utterly stunning.
3. What was the best costume you’ve ever donned?
I’m particularly fond of when I went as the last member of the Donner Party. That’s probably one of my more creative costumes.

Although my all time favorite planned out costume was Rhonda from the HBO show Big Love. I’m pretty sure half the reason I miss my long hair is because I can no longer do the Rhonda poof anymore. Trust me when I say it is a tragedy.
Anyway, the picture above is me mocking up the hair for the costume. I never actually got to wear the costume because I ended up being sick on Halloween. Le sigh.
4. What’s the most creative costume you’ve ever seen?
Honestly, I can’t really think of one. Mostly I just remember the strange ones– like the guy who dressed up as one of the 300 warriors. It was raining out, and all I could think was he must be freezing (he was shirtless, and everything).
5. No holds barred if you could dress up as anything, what would it be?
If cost was not an issue, I’d go full out Lolita. I’d really love to get into Lolita, but it’s a very expensive habit. The average dress or jumperskirt will tend to cost around $300. However, from what I’ve read the reason for the price being so high is because of the quality of the garment. It’s all very intricate and usually involves a lot of lace/ruffles/detail work.

After discovering the sad amount of sweaters I own (I total of none), I realized that they really are a necessary part of a wardrobe. Somehow I’ve managed to live without them, which I plan to rectify very quickly. So here’s why you (and I) should add sweaters to our wardrobe.
